Stockings represent women´s apparel accessory, usually worn on legs. But there are also cases when misses or young ladies take a fancy to rubber bands from old cut-off stockings because they hold better in ther hair. They are divided into stockings for garter and self-holding ones with hem or lace. Stockings are made of polyamide fibres which are often mixed with elastic fibres.

Nylons appeared first in the U.S. at the end of the 30th of the last century. Until then, the luxurious stockings were made of silk and the cheaper ones were made of cotton. According to statistics of The Czech Statistical Office, in the Czech Republic in 2007 there were produced 28.4 million of pieces of tights and 8.4 million pairs of stockings and knee socks. High numbers indicate their popularity as a very popular fashion accessory among women.

On the other hand, there are tights, also known as pantyhoses which are dressed from tips of feet to waist. They are available in all colours and designs. Colours are often dictated by fashion trends and vendors then compete to see who will offer a wider selection. Some manufacturers even produce men's hosiery, sought-after by gentlemen for their practicalities in the cold season when they wear them under pants.

Pantyhose is made of nylon fibres and they fit closely to the lower extremities. Their fineness is indicated by unit Denver (DEN), which indicates the strength of used textile fibres. The higher the number, the thicker and less transparent the tights. This very popular product is manufactured with reinforced or non-reinforced toe and seat; with a small wedge or without a wedge.
